The Grand Western Canal runs alongside this landscaped camp. A private gate from the site leads straight out onto the water. Canoe or boat launches are close by.
Fishing and boating permits are available from campsite reception. Walk for 12 miles along the canal towpath or head out onto The National Cycle Route. The towpath is part of The West Country Cycle Way.
Part of the site is close to a dual carriageway, and some campers complained about traffic noise. I try to get a pitch further from the road (ideally opposite reception, next to the canal).
The village of Sampford Peverell is a 15 minutes walk along the towpath with two excellent pubs to choose from. The village also has a golf driving range.
The site is close to Exmoor, Dartmoor, and some of the best surfing beaches in Britain.
