Stayed on this beautiful little Caravan Club CL at the weekend. It was so cold at night, dropped to about -4, but I woke up to a frosty, rustic morning and a beautiful, golden lake scene.

£10-a-might including electricity. Nice and close to the Pembrokeshire National Park and the Brecon Beacons.

The six pitches look right out across the lake, and are just above the tackle shop and cafe. More info here

  Here’s a great place in the Snowdonia National Park. Not sure why it took me so long to find (thanks Nick Payne!). The camp is a Camping and Caravanning Listed Site and is just a few minutes from Lake Bala. Best of all it’s right on the banks of the River Tryweryn beside the National White Water Centre. Canoeing and white water rafting are available. For more details click here

The tidal River Cleddau laps against the grassy areas of the campsite boundary. Visitors are free to launch canoes, kayaks and small boats from the site. The river is popular with anglers. web link

Free fishing on the River Twrch, within a mile of Lake Bala. The campsite is in the Snowdonia National Park and the river runs the length of our park (fishing is free to our guests) and is extremely popular with guests of all ages.

The excellent Llanuwchllyn Narrow Gauge Railway Station is next door offering open carriage journeys along the lake. web link
